BAE-107, International trade or foreign trade provides students with perspectives in the different societies, cultures, political beliefs, economic systems and opportunities for personal growth. this course will emphasize an awareness of the importance of history, geography, language, cultural studies, research skills,and continuing education on the creation of an opportunity outside our national border

Course Description

 

This introductory course provides a basic working knowledge of International Trade. These are its historical development, theories, concepts, practices, international trade concerns and commercial and trade relations between and among countries with particular attention to the Philippine experience with other countries – having a global perspective. Likewise, various trade organizations, associations, regional and country cooperation are looked into.

 

It will study the interconnections of trade in bringing about growth and changes. Furthermore, trade issues on: development, integration, trade blocking, and economic sanctions are studied. These and how they evolve to meet global challenges peculiar to them are explored in order to draw out possible solutions.

 

Equal emphasis is also placed on how to go about Export Marketing, International Trade terms, documentation requirements are defined and chartered. 

 
  

Course Objectives

 

A.    General

 

1.     Understand the principle, concepts and theories of International Trade and Marketing;

2.     Explore and analyze: country trade practices; trade relations; peculiarities; issues and its effects to international trade relations;

3.     Appreciate how various external forces (like socio-cultural, economic, political, geographic, legal, currencies and its conversions, fluctuations and control) affect trade relations and operations;

4.     Develop an open mind particularly in understanding the relationships and implications of: diverse cultures, norms and values found in trade relations and work place;

5.     Identify International Trade terms;

6.     Follow through the procedural steps in international / export trade documentation;

7.     Develop the students’ communications skills as they go about the course activities, as they explore diverse trade and cultures, export marketing terms and documentation requirements, and;

8.     Analyze problems and situations using research and quantitative tools in arriving at marketing decsisions

 

B.    Specific

 

1.     Analyze, solve, present and submit case analysis / research papers;

2.     Conduct individual and group research / interview of assigned topics;

3.     Draw a specific export marketing plan outline or an export organizational study

 
  

Course Methodology

 

The course topics will be addressed through lectures, case analyses, class discussions, graded recitations and papers, and individual and group exercises and presentations.
