CA-111 is an integration of the fundamentals of radio scriptwriting, production procedures and techniques. Students are exposed to various radio programs-types and are given the chance to conceptualize, plan and produce these programs
Course Description:
This is an integrated course on the fundamentals of radio scriptwriting and radio production principles and techniques.
At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:
A. fully understand the nature and intricacies of radio as a communication medium;
B. know the history and evolution of radio as an important medium of communication;
C. know the basic concepts and techniques in radio scriptwriting and production, which include among others, scriptwriting, direction and on-air and taped performances;
D. identify the important attributes of a good radio script as basis for a quality radio production.
E. write, produce and direct radio programs of varying formats.
Value Aims:
The students are expected to:
A. value team work and team effort through radio scriptwriting and production exercises;
B. practice punctuality and professionalism in radio scriptwriting and production exercises;
C. develop critical thinking and fast decision making in assessing the use and application of theories in actual scriptwriting and production exercises;
D. identify and use through actual exercises the potentials of radio as a medium to effect positive change in society;
E. be resourceful, creative and do thorough research for all contents of scripts and productions; and
F. carry and encourage in scripts and productions positive Christian and Filipino values.
Methodology:
Much of the semester will be devoted to actual radio scriptwriting and production. To prepare the students for these outputs, introductory, theoretical lectures, discussions and workshops will be given and/or conducted.
Students will work on their scripts and productions either individually or as teams. Outputs will be critiqued based on the quality of script; and creative and technical merits of productions.
For students to satisfactorily pass the course, they should accomplish the following:
A. quality individual and radio scripts and productions
B. active participation in class discussions and exercises
C. program monitoring reports and reviews
D. should not exceed five (5) cuts.
Grading System:
Five (5) original radio scripts of varied formats will be written and produced by the students. The grades for each will be based on the final scripts and on-air or taped productions. For individual productions, only the producer/director/writer will be given grade, however, her staff is expected to perform well.
