This is a course that deals with basic principles of movement as they apply to Arnis. The subject will concentrate on the students as they understand the basic mechanics dealing with balance, forces and motion. The course responds to the diverse needs of all learners by preparing them to creatively adjust to combative situations that may happen to each of them. Active involvement in this subject aims to promote improved physical fitness components while having it as a source of enjoyment.

Course Description:

Objectives

A. General Objective:

Ø  Create awareness and develop ability to protect and preserve oneself through the proper application of Filipino martial art of Arnis.

Ø  Uphold the core values of Miriam College : truth, justice, peace, and integrity of creation in service learning and academic programs and activities

B. Specific Objectives:

      Cognitive:

    1. Discuss and explain important persons and landmarks in the history of Arnis
    2. Understand concepts, mechanics and physiological principles in the practice and performance of Filipino fighting art of arnis.
    3. Analyze situations for proper application of self-defense techniques.

Psychomotor

1.   Perform blocks, strikes and counter techniques satisfactorily

2.  Execute defensive and offensive self-defense maneuvers

3.  Carry out correct performance in the application of self-defense techniques

Affective

1.    Appreciate the intrinsic values of self- discipline, patience and perseverance.

2.    Demonstrate courage and determination in the performance of strikes, blocks and counter-strikes inter-class exhibition

3.    Express humility in success and failures.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS


            proper uniform, attendance, participation, recitation, quizzes (practical), final examination             (Inter-class exhibition), WCSA/WNCAA game.  Reflection on the movie

 

CLASSROOM POLICIES

 

1.    Must come to class on time (Every late is a deduction and three times is one absent).

2.    Accumulation of 3 invalid absences is automatically FA.

3.    Must wear the prescribed PE uniform every class including appropriate rubber shoes.

4.    Should actively participate in all class activities, such as warm-up exercises, drills, skill presentation, skill practices, practical tests, tournaments, etc.

5.    Must attend in all activities related to the course such as WCSA game & cheer-Dance Exhibition

6.    Must observe proper behavior/attitude in class.

7.    Should strictly follow the school guidelines on absences & tardiness.

8.    Excessive use of cell-phone is not allowed during class.

           

GRADING SYSTEM  


            Final Grade = CA (70 %)  +  FE (30 %)

 

CA (70%) = active participation (attendance, wearing of proper uniform,                            participation, attitude and behavior in class, recitation)

            FE (30%) = Inter-class competition or written final examination
